High enough for good ankle support, light enough to move and cut well. I see no need to pay hundreds of dollars for basketball shoes. These will do everything that you need them to do. These are wonderful shoes..I was so happy to finally order a pair. So far they are breaking in comfortably. I decided to by these to dress up with them for Halloween this year. Many folks at our party thought I was dressing up as Run DMC with jogging pants top and these shoes. I really had in mind to dress up as Chris Martin and his Coldplay band mates. The four of them wore black pants and top and these shoes for their 2005 X&Y tour.
